The following Robert Trent Jones II quotes are his thoughts regarding the design philosophy and character which was his intent during the development of the Charter Oak Country Club course:

Design Vision & Philosophy

"At Charter Oak, we set out to achieve a classically designed course reminiscent of the great New England courses. We inherited a rugged, extremely picturesque site complete with dramatic elevation changes and large rock outcroppings. We turned this condition to our advantage, using the topography to create a modern variation on the classic New England design theme.
The course was crafted from a dense hardwood forest and the tree-lined nature of the course places a premium on accuracy. We laid out the course to flow naturally with the terrain, and in keeping with a classic design philosophy made it as simple as possible in terms of the golf strategy. The course is well bunkered, yet we have provided room for players to make decisions and adjust their game. The philosophy built into a majority of the green complexes is a belief that we have to keep the green entries relatively open. However, the name of the game at Charter Oak will be; keep it between the trees."
